Chaos at Howe Community Park Results in Four Victims Wounded in the Arden-Arcade Area of Sacramento

Law enforcement in Sacramento are looking into a violent incident that broke out Saturday evening at Howe Park in Sacramento as law enforcement were dissolving a large unsanctioned party of multiple hundreds of people.

Before the Gunfire

Law enforcement were first called to the Arden-Arcade park just after 6:30 PM on April 18 after learning of people potentially armed with concealed firearms. Following that, additional information came in describing a possible physical fight happening within the park grounds.

A law enforcement read more helicopter scanned the area from the air but came back with no confirmation of a fight. However, authorities discovered that a crowd of several hundred had gathered without authorization in an unauthorized manner.

The Shooting Itself

Responding units began the process of clearing the park by surrounding the park and issuing commands over loudspeakers ordering the crowd to disperse at once. Roughly 15 minutes were provided for the gathering to break up.

At the height of the dispersal effort that 20 to 25 rounds of ammunition echoed through the night. The shots triggered a stampede. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies at once began searching for victims.

The Shooting Victims

By the time the scene was secured, four gunshot victims were discovered with shooting injuries. The four individuals — including a female and three males ranging in age through their in their 20s at the time of the incident — were brought to hospitals in the Sacramento area. Doctors and nurses reported that two victims were in serious condition, one of the four had moderate gunshot wounds, and one suffered minor injuries. Fortunately, all four were expected to survive.

Sacramento fire crews assisted at the location and assisted with medical triage those with gunshot wounds on location.

What Investigators Found

The bulk of the shooting appears to have occurred along Cottage Way next to the Home Depot at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. CSI personnel discovered additional shell casings on Cottage Way. Ballistic damage were noted in the iron perimeter fence bordering the Home Depot store. These findings pointed to that a shooter had been aiming south from along Cottage Way targeting the Home Depot. The Home Depot was secured under a brief lockdown while law enforcement worked the area. Forensic investigators and law enforcement detectives continued working through the early morning hours.

Arrests Made

Reports confirmed through scanner monitoring showed that a Kia had been detained in Solano County. Four occupants were held for questioning. Sheriff's units were heading to pick up the four detainees to return them to Sacramento for formal questioning. Video that was reviewed showed that two shooters had been involved.
